THE TREATMENT OF ACNE
Does acne bother you, make you ill-at-ease?
Nearly 20% of the Canadian population is affected by acne problems, representing 90% of teenagers and about 25% of adults.
The vast majority of acne triggers are attributed to heredity, puberty or any other hormonal imbalance. This skin condition, often beyond the control of the person affected, can have an impact on self-esteem.
Acne is localized where there is a high density of sebaceous glands. These areas are located on the face, upper back and chest. Acne is the result of increased sebum production. The acne bacterium (Propionibacterium acnes) lives in the sebum which, in the absence of oxygen, causes pimples and inflammation.
To fight acne, the first action is to oxygenate the skin by unclogging the pores. Then, a combination of appropriate treatments and active ingredient products are used to slow down sebum production. Thus, in the presence of oxygen and by regulating sebum production, the proliferation of the bacteria is reduced.
The causes of acne are many and sometimes difficult to detect:
- heredity;
- hormonal variations;
- diet;
- health practices;
- cosmetic products, perfume;
- some medications;
- perspiration;
- stress.
